Marketing and Communications Intern
Part-Time Internship (rolling)
Unpaid; Course credit is possible and VA WORK/STUDY compensation for military veterans studying under GI BILL.
Stand Beside Them, Inc. (www.standbesidethem.org) (SBT) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to coach and empower America’s military veterans, and their spouses/caregivers, to achieve success at home, at work, and in the community. We pursue our mission by providing free coaching services, matching our coachees with certified, experienced, and highly-knowledgeable professional coaches. Whether it is to help find employment, start a new business, complete an education, or improve personal relationships, assess for new vocations, or locate health care to fully meet their needs, our coaches are here to help veterans set and achieve their goals. Our intern will have the opportunity to make a large impact, reporting directly to the Executive Director.
We are looking for someone with strong writing skills, who is familiar with social media and is enthusiastic about working at a national non-profit to help expand the footprint of SBT. We are seeking an intern who is willing to commit approximately 20-24 hours a week for 3-4 months.
Liaise with VA and veteran service organizations, military service branches, the press, and other agencies working with veterans, to promote the work of SBT.
Maintain and update all social media (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram) and SBT website.
Help write monthly newsletter and develop website content, promotional materials, advertising pieces, and fundraising communications.
Interview coaches/coachees to capture their experiences of working with SBT.
Occasional speech writing or press releases.
Help with all special events, webinars, meetings as needed.
Other tasks as assigned.
Required skills and experience:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office - including proficiency with Excel and Powerpoint.
Proficiency with social media sites - including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred skills and experience:
Proficiency with WIX or similar web/content management software programs.
Experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, or similar design software.
Experience with community outreach, public relation, advertising, content creation, or marketing.
Interest in veteran’s issues and/or coaching
Hours per week: 20
Duration: 3-4 months
