SBT Celebrates Our Sixth Anniversary!

SBT Kicks Off Our 6th Anniversary Party with a Marvelous Evening

It’s unbelievable how fast the time has sped by! On July 31st we celebrated six years since Stand Beside Them launched our nonprofit. SBT coaches, board-members, past coachees, supporters, leaders of the veteran community, and the Commissioner of Veterans Services for the City of New York gathered at our CEO, Stephanie Richmond’s residence in Manhattan for a spectacular party!

We were honored that NYC Commissioner for Veterans Services, Brigadier General (ret.) Loree Sutton, MD, attended with Deputy Commissioner Cassandra Alvarez. During her illustrious Army career, General Sutton, a psychiatrist, was the Founding Director of the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury. Three years ago she helped found the Department of Veterans Services for the City of New York, which is the first stand-alone city commission in the country to be devoted to veterans. The Commissioner thanked Stephanie and SBT for being an active participant in “VetConnectNYC," and for collaborating closely with other organizations to help veterans living in NYC. (photo above).

Another highlight of the evening was hearing from two veterans we've been privileged to coach, and their accounts of how SBT coaching impacted their lives. You can click on the link below their photos to hear both Ivan Snook's (Marine veteran) and Nina Semczuk's (Army veteran) stories. These talented veterans will always be part of the SBT family!

Thanks to our sponsors for their extraordinary generosity! Mercer Family Vineyards, Grace's Market Place, Lady M Cakes, donated the delectable food, wine, and desserts! All Star, Idea Village, Flawless Beauty, Micro-touch Groom, Copper Fit, and Skull Candy provided raffle prizes and goodies for gift bags! We are so grateful for their support for SBT's mission and for America’s veterans.

The evening came to a close with a raffle drawing, then the piece-de-resistance, a Lady M strawberry shortcake! We wish all of our 150 coaches could have had a piece of this cake, but you were with us in our hearts! We're so proud of all of our coaches' dedication to helping empower veterans, spouses and caregivers to obtain success in all of their endeavors, at home, at work, and in the community! "Our veterans are our country's best national resource", Stephanie said, concluding: "It is an honor to help them create the next chapter in their lives."

22 Days Left for our Summer Fundraiser!

Over the past year, we have had over 150 veterans, military spouses, and caregivers pass through our 12 session coaching program. In addition to coaching and connecting them to fulfilling jobs matching their skills and values, we’ve helped many start new businesses or decide to pursue degrees or certifications for new careers. Having a transition plan, specific goals, and an encouraging coach by one’s side makes a world of difference to a veteran. It helps combat the isolation many feel when their buddies are no longer with them, and helps restore self-confidence which is essential when seeking a new job or career.  We need your help to continue our plans to help more veterans than ever before. Please give whatever you can to support SBT's mission to coach and connect America's military veterans and their spouses and caregivers to achieve success at home, at work, and in the community. We are making a difference! We can do much more with your continued support!
